Michael Lobo has directed police to take strict action against establishments operating without valid licences, renewals, and mandatory health and pollution control clearances, warning of a renewed crackdown in the Baga area.
Lobo stated that the panchayat will receive formal instructions to seal units that fail to comply with legal requirements. Referring to recent developments, he noted that while the Mehfil nightclub has ceased operations, a massage parlour has started functioning at the same location, which he personally observed and said will face action.
He further pointed out that similar steps had been taken earlier in Baga following two incidents, but alleged that despite repeated enforcement efforts, such operations continue to be run by outsiders.
Calling for a more proactive approach from local authorities, Lobo urged the panchayat to take firm measures against illegal massage parlours. He also highlighted that fines of ₹5,000 and ₹10,000 have already been imposed on touts, and announced that stricter penalties of ₹25,000 will be enforced for repeat offences.
The move is aimed at tightening regulation and ensuring compliance with local laws in one of Goa’s busiest tourist hubs.
