More than 22 lakh students are appearing for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination on Sunday, weeks after the original test was cancelled following allegations of a paper leak. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has put in place extensive security arrangements to ensure the examination is conducted fairly and smoothly across the country.
The re-test is being held from 2 pm to 5:15 pm at 5,440 centres across 551 cities in India and 14 overseas locations. Candidates were allowed to enter centres from 11 am, with strict frisking and biometric verification procedures in place. The NTA has advised students to arrive early, while Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan urged aspirants to remain calm and appear for the exam fearlessly.

To prevent malpractice, more than 1.38 lakh CCTV cameras, over 51,000 signal jammers and AI-based surveillance systems have been deployed. Around 6,700 observers, biometric verification teams and additional invigilators are monitoring the process.
The NTA has also arranged drinking water, ORS, ambulances and shaded waiting areas for parents, aiming to provide candidates with a secure and supportive examination environment.
