Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has clarified that the Education Department’s circular declaring a 500-metre drug-free zone around educational institutions was issued in line with Government of India and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) guidelines.
Sawant said the initiative is aimed at creating awareness and monitoring suspicious activities on and around school campuses.

He also highlighted the role of Goa’s Anti-Narcotics Cell, stating that the agency is actively monitoring drug-related activities across the state.
The Chief Minister urged people not to create unnecessary confusion over the circular and said the government’s measures should not be used to malign Goa’s image in connection with drugs.
Sawant maintained that the 500-metre drug-free zone initiative is primarily intended to strengthen vigilance around educational institutions and ensure a safer environment for students.
