PANJIM: Irked over the frequent power failures during the ongoing Ganesh festival, Congress workers staged unique protest on Thursday by performing the traditional ‘arati’ in the Electricity Department.
The protest was led by Goa Pradesh Youth Congress Committee president Varad Mardolkar. Mardolkar said the protest was the outcome of the frequent power cuts witnessed in the State during the festive season.
“People have been celebrating Chaturthi in darkness as the power supply has been frequently cut in various villages of the State. The Electricity Department has failed to provide uninterrupted power supply to the people even on these important days. The Department has failed to give any relief to the consumers,” he said.
The Congress workers were upset after majority of the Electricity Department officers were absent when they protested. “The officers should have been on duty at this time when entire State is experiencing power cuts. But what we see is that the officers have abandoned the office,” he said.
