Stray cattle menace returns to haunt motorists in Sanguem

SANGUEM: The stray cattle menace has once again begun to haunt the motorists on the busy Curchorem-Sanguem road right upto Uguem.
However, the authorities concerned have not taken measures to stop the ever increasing stray cattle menace on this busy road.
While law stipulates the municipal and panchayat authorities to have a cattle pound in their jurisdiction to handle the stray cattle menace, the cattle pounds even if it exists have become a mere show piece as there are no personnel employed by these authorities to impound the stray cattle and  get them to pounds.
Since last one month, the stray cattle menace on the Sanguem Curchorem road has increased considerably and the situation is worst near the land filling site at Kharkhatiaghati and at Uguem where large number of cattle is seen occupying major portion of the road leaving hardly any space for vehicular traffic.
And with no streetlights, this road has become all the more dangerous for motorists at night, as the stray cattle squatting in the middle of the road cannot be spotted.
The citizens have urged the authorities to impound the cattle and house them in safe pounds.
