PANJIM: Crime Branch has completed its inquiry into the death of the Fr Bismarque Dias and sent the inquiry report to the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) for finalisation.
Superintendent of Police of Crime Branch, Kartik Kashyap, said, “We have completed our inquiry under Section 174 CrPC and now it has been sent to the SDM to finalise it. We have inquired into each and every aspect and allegation in the case and not kept any aspect of inquiry open,” Kashyap told Herald. He added, “Both post-mortem reports clearly mentioned that death was due to drowning.”
He said that approximately 60 witnesses have been quizzed and their statements recorded. “We have looked into each and every allegation. Every name alleged by the family, friends and activists has not only been verified but we have put it on record with their statements,” Kashyap said.
Kashyap said that the comprehensive report, which includes both post-mortem reports, viscera report, DNA profiling, diatom test report, lie detector test attempts and the CDR (Call Details Record) have been attached to the report. All scientific aspects have been verified to prove the allegations that the death was due to murder, he added.
Kashyap said that CFSL Gandhinagar has refused to conduct the lie-detector test on one of the prime witnesses though the court had permitted the test. Kashyap said CFSL refused the test based on the mental heuristic of the witness.
Bismarque’s body was found under mysterious circumstances on November 7, 2015 at St Estevam. He was missing since November 5 and his body recovered two days later from river Mandovi.
It’s been almost four months that the body has been preserved at the GMC morgue. Family members have not claimed the body demanding a thorough investigation in the case. They had applied for an NOC from Crime Branch to claim the body on November 28 and Crime Branch has issued the same on November 30.
