PANJIM: A nine-member Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF) delegation met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in Delhi on Tuesday and requested his government to put up a plea before the Supreme Court for day to day hearing of the illegal mining case notwithstanding the vacations. The case is scheduled to be heard on June 10.
GMPF Convenor Suhas Naik said that the Prime Minister has been requested to convey to the SC through the office of Attorney General of India for day to day hearing of the PIL pertaining to illegal mining in Goa.
“We want them to fast track the case,” Naik said. GMPF members accompanied by Congress MP Francisco Sardinha met the PM Tuesday afternoon. “The PM said that environmental concerns should be addressed seriously,” he added.
