Colvale jail inmate dies of COVID

MAPUSA: Yellapa Karbal, murder under-trial at Colvale Central Jail succumbed to the COVID-19 infection.

He was asymptomatic and was earlier kept in the isolation ward of Colvale Jail. He was rushed to the North Goa District Hospital on Sunday night after his condition deteriorated but he did not survive.  It may be recalled that Yellapa was undergoing trial before District and Sessions Court in Margao after he was charged in a murder case.

Sources added that the medical report along with the inquiry report of the Prisons Department has been submitted to the District Magistrate (DM) and Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) for further examination.

The Prisons Department has intimated that a total of 59 prisoners have been released on parole in pursuance to order of the Supreme Court.
