PANJIM: Karwar Independent MLA and Mallikarjun Shipping Private Limited Director Santeesh Sail, alias Satish, skipped the Special Investigation Team’s (SIT) summons in the ongoing probe into illegal mining.
He was summoned to appear on Monday for his alleged involvement in illegal mining activities/exports of illicit iron ore in Goa during the period 2007-2012.
In a written communiqué sent to the SIT Mines, Sail cited his mother-in-law’s illness for not being able to appear for questioning but assured to cooperate with the investigation. He also asked that he may be called on another date, and assured to cooperate with the investigation.
SP Kartik Kashyap confirmed that the MLA skipped the summons owing to personal reasons and a fresh summons has been sent asking him to depose for interrogation on Friday.
SIT’s summons was sent at Sail’s residence in Sadashivgadh, Karwar on Sunday by SIT PI Dattaguru Sawant after the ongoing probe and interrogation of several persons, including some accused, had pointed at the former’s alleged role into the scam.
The CEC had found that Sail’s company, along with ILC Industries Private Ltd, Dream Logistics, and SB Logistics, had exported 80 lakh tonnes of illicit ore from Bilikeri port in Uttar Kannada district between January 1, 2009 and May 31, 2010.
