PANJIM: On Tuesday 3,124 new COVID positive cases were reported by Directorate of Health Services from 8,505 samples tested. There were 321 new hospitalised patients, while 2,948 persons were placed under home isolation.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant continued to tweet the number of vacant COVID oxygen beds, i.e. 55 and the helpline number 08322494545.

While DHS also released its COVID mortality bulletin on Tuesday night, revealing that there were 75 more deaths, 68 of the deaths occurred within 24 hours. Four of the remaining seven deaths took place on May 9, while two took place on May 8, one on May 7 and one on May 1.
Nevertheless, 68 is the highest single-day spike of COVID deaths since the beginning of the pandemic. This comes at a time when the CM last week said that the mortality rate would reduce soon. Two of the deaths were reported to have been declared as ‘brought dead’.
Of the 75 deaths reported by DHS, 48 took place at Goa Medical College (GMC), 17 at South Goa District Hospital, 1 at Hospicio, 1 at the Margao ESI COVID hospital, 1 at the North Goa District Hospital (NGDH), 1 at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Marcaim, 1 at PHC Chinchinim, 2 at a private hospital in North Goa and three at private hospital in South Goa.
Of the 75 who expired 16 had no co-morbidities and seven were below the age of 46. The youngest to succumb to the infection was a 33-year-old man from Pilgao.
The total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic has risen to 1,804.
Meanwhile, the total number of patients that recovered in the last 24 hours from Tuesday evening was 2,475 and the recovery rate is now at 72.24 per cent. On Tuesday, the total number of active cases has risen to 32,836.
While the Urban Health Centre Margao (2,837) continues to be above 2,500 figure of active cases, UHC Mapusa (1,572), UHC Panjim (1,786), Primary Health Centre (PHC) Candolim (1,765), PHC Porvorim (1,500) and PHC Ponda (1,843) were the places that continued to be above the 1,500 figure of active cases.
