Rains continue to disrupt normal life in Salcete

Rains disrupted normal life on the second day on Saturday, even as reports of houses damaged by uprooted trees have come in from Salcete on Saturday.
Fire brigade said a tree came crashing down on a house at Santolem-Navelim, causing a loss of Rs 50,000.
In another incident in Navelim, a tree fell on a residential house, destroying property worth Rs 5000.
Reports of trees uprooted on the roads have come in from Telaulim, Gogol and Panzorconne have come in today. A number of electric poles were seen uprooted along the Panzorconne-Cuncolim road, sources said.
Meanwhile, large tracts of low lying areas in Salcete, especially in the Khareband-Benaulim area were inundated with flood waters. Flooding had also taken place at the Old market area, with locals blaming the authorities for not maintaining drainage at the wall built near the court building.
The heavy rains also damaged the Arlem road, besides the road at Gogol, between Old Chowgule college to the main road at Vidyanagar.
