MARGAO: There’s good news in store for the 4694 visually impaired people in the State.
Social Welfare Minister Mahadev Naik has announced that the government would soon come out with a scheme to provide walking sticks, laptops, talking mobile and talking software for the visually impaired.
Speaking at a function organised by an NGO Saksham at Shantinagar at Aquem Baixo on Sunday during the inauguration of a Braille library, the Social Welfare Minister said that the government would also offer Braille kits for the blind. “As per statistics, there are around 46894 visually impaired people in the state of Goa. It is our government’s commitment to provide the visually impaired people basic facilities such as walking sticks, laptops, talking mobile and other equipments,” he said.
Naik further said that the Goa government is committed to provide financial assistance for the traditional occupations. In this context, he said the government has made a financial provision to assist those engaged in the traditional occupations.
Announcing that the Goa Social welfare department is ranked fourth in the entire country, the minister said that credit for the achievement goes to the officials and staff employed with the department.
The Braille library will help the visually impaired access to information through a special software.
