MAPUSA: Paradise Sports Club scored three goals in each session to thump Ronit Sports Club 6-0 and qualify for 3rd Division football league Ilhas zone play-offs at Dr Remigio Pinto ground, Taleigao, Friday.
After a slow start to the proceedings, Paradise shot into the lead in the 22nd minute through Vinesh Kuttikar’s strike. Subsequently, Prabash Sawant inflated the tally in the 38th minute and Pritesh Sawant made it 3-0 before the break.
Changing over, Ronit SC did look a threat going forward as Nitesh Parvatkar fired a right-footer from inside the box but Paradise keeper Santosh Sawant came up with a block and then denied Pravin Andrade off the rebound.
Paradise right-winger Newton Azavedo made several daunting runs which kept the rival defenders on their toes but the latter was too selfish at times. However, Newton was rewarded for his hard work in the 74th minute as he had to only tap in from hand-shaking distance after Anthony Correia’s initially shot went past Ronit SC keeper Dyneshwar Shirvaikar.
With three minutes to go, Newton earned his brace after going solo to make it 5-0 while Pritesh scored his second in the injury time with a deft finish.
Paradise move into the play-offs with 16 point in their kitty.
