MARGAO: The feast of St Francis Xavier, “Goemcho Saib” was celebrated with religious fervour and pomp at the South Goa district police head quarters on Tuesday.
Personnel from the police department and people from all walks participated in the Eucharistic Mass celebrated by assistant parish priest of Our Lady of Grace Church, Margao, Fr Joseph Rodrigues, who in his homily called on the faithful and people of other religions to change themselves and then try to change others to be better persons. Remembering St Francis Xavier, Fr Rodrigues said that it was St Ignatius de Loyola who brought about a change in the life of Francis Xavier who in turn used the change in himself to change others and rose to be a saint.
A procession was taken out which wended its way around the old bus stand before culminating at the police headquarters for blessing.
DySP Tony Fernandes speaking on the occasion said that he hoped that in future officers and police personnel will continue the tradition to celebrate both Ganesh and feast of St Xavier, which all Goans celebrate.
