PANJIM: The State government is contemplating amending acts that govern the Women’s Commission on lines of the Rajasthan State Act, which speaks of stringent punishment for perpetrators of crimes against women.
Women and Child Development Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday said the government is working towards strengthening the State Women’s Commission by amending related laws.
“We will amend and modify acts which govern Women’s Commission on the lines of Rajasthan act with stringent punishment provisions for perpetrators of crimes on women,” the Minister said.
Rane, Friday morning held an open interaction with various voluntary organisations seeking suggestions and inputs to improve functioning of the Commission.
“We want to make the Directorate of Women and Child Development pro-active and sensitive. We are open to proposals and suggestions from various NGOs,” Rane said during the interaction.
Rane spoke of the appointment of a monitoring committee that will oversee the functioning of all other related committees which will look into resolving the issues pertaining to women and children.
