MARGAO: The Margao-Salcete Truck Owners Association has requested the government to waive off the road tax and allow quarterly payment terms for insurance of the trucks.
The request was made by the Association President Franky Gomes, Vallabh Varak, Herculano Niasso and others at a press conference held in Margao on Wednesday.
Franky Gomes said, “We demand relief from road tax and liberty to pay insurance quarterly.”
“We don’t want package now as we were given package earlier and later fleeced in the name of GPS, recharge, speed governor and several renewals,” he added.
Presently the truck owners have to shell out Rs 10,000 for road tax and at least Rs 50,000 as insurance.
Vallabh Varak said, “This time we have got only three months work. In 2010, tax was exempted and now if there is tax exemption we will be able to sell or condemn the vehicle.”
The truck owners have decided to submit a memorandum to the transport department and the minister requesting tax exemption and liberty in paying insurance.
