PONDA: Sudden cyclonic wind for around 10 to 15 minutes hit Betki-Khandola village. With the impact the roof of a house was blown away. In some areas trees too were uprooted.
According to locals, the incident took place around 3 pm and within few minutes the cyclonic wind blew the roof of house owned by Nagesh Bhosle at Gaonkarwada, Khandola. The roof consisted of metal sheets. One huge tree was also found uprooted and landed dangerously on Primary Health Centre, Betki. Luckily only the roof of the PHC was damaged.
Locals have urged the authorities concerned to clear the tree at the earliest since in case of strong winds it may cause further disaster. At Haldanwada too branches of tree fell on a house.
In Ponda, a huge free fell on the house owned by Vithoba Naik, at Adpai, in the jurisdiction of Durbhat-Adpai, Agapur Panchayat. He suffered a loss of Rs 5 lakh.
Sarpanch Chandan Naik and local panchayat member Amruta Naik inspected the house. The roof of the house and a major portion comprising three rooms including bedrooms were completely damaged. Luckily, the house owner, his wife and two children had a lucky escape as they were in another room.
Sarpanch Chandan Naik said, “The house owners suffered a major loss. One mango tree located near the house was cut recently. However, another tree fell on the house.
House owner Vithoba Naik narrated that the incident took early Friday morning. Major portion of the house was damaged. Ponda Fire Station incharge Sushil Morajkar and team cleared the tree which fell on the house.
