CALANGUTE: The Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF) has condemned the statement of Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte for claiming that there is no harm in the sale of alcohol in the Aguada Fort jail museum complex.
Labelling the sale of alcohol at the museum dedicated to the freedom struggle as an insult to the sentiments of freedom fighters, who went through torture and other hardships in the former Portuguese jail, the CCF has demanded immediate shutdown of the bar in the premises and called for instituting an inquiry into the matter.
“It is rather shameful that a place which is considered sacred to the freedom fighters, who fought and laid down their lives for our State and the country has been converted into a bar. The government should immediately shut it down and institute an inquiry on who allowed the setting up of a bar in the hallowed precincts of the fort,” Premanand Diukar, the president of the CCF said.
