PANJIM: The Civil Society members under the banner of Goenche Fudle Pindge Khatir have demanded that police maintain law and order at the Gram Sabhas. This is in the background of the attack on Dr. Inacio Fernandes in Anjuna Gram Sabha, and the accused roaming freely. This happening all over Goa and police have to do their duty. They submitted a memorandum to the DGP, at Police Head quarters Panjim, who assured them action.
Jack Mascarenhas, President, of Goenche Fudle Pindge Khatir said, “There was an attack on Dr Inacio Fernandes at the Anjuna Gram Sabhas. Since there has been no action, in the case, we had gone to meet the DGP to brief him about the case. We are not only talking about Anjuna, but we are talking of all of Goa, because of breakdown of law and order. If there is no action on this assault, this will be an example for all other villages and such types of incidents will be repeated in all villages.”
“We do not want the law and order in Goa to break down, that’s why we have taken this initiative. Now in Pernem, two groups have merged. There are divisions sown among Goans. Goans fight and the third party comes and takes advantage. Goans have to understand this,” Mascarenhas warned Goans.
Senior Activists Jose Maria Miranda said, “Earlier, we have not seen what has happened in Anjuna. In front of the panchayat members and the entire Gram Sabha, people assault a doctor. After the assault, the accused entered the gram sabha at least three or four times. He should have been detained. Sarpanch also should have prevented him from coming back to the gram sabha.”
