PANJIM: The Budget session of the Goa Legislative Assembly will commence on March 14. The Budget is likely to focus on employment creation as promised by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar recently.
This would be Parsekar’s second budget and the ruling coalition’s last before the State goes to the polls either this year-end or early next year. The five-day long Budget session will end on March 18.
With the 2016-17 Budget most likely to focus on employment creation, sources said that being an election year, the government could introduce more social schemes. The Budget will also add revenue collection to the mining sector, which was not visible in the last two years owing to the closure of mining operations in September 2012.
The session is also expected to see some heated discussions as the Opposition benches will be waiting to corner the govt over the declassification of the coconut tree.
