Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has assured to further enhance medical facilities to the people of Canacona and bring about all the needed changes to upgrade Canacona Community Health Centre Chaudi to a decent hospital.
The assurance came, after a delegation of Canacona Health Welfare Committee (CHWC) led by Poinguinim MLA Ramesh Tawadkar met the chief minister at his residence at Margao on Tuesday.
Apparently to keep the burning issue alive, the CHWC in an effort to streamline its earlier demands again submitted a memorandum listing out nine-point demands to the chief minister.
The CHWC also thanked Kamat for providing an ambulance to CHC Canacona, showing positive strides towards bringing in much-needed changes in the functioning of CHC.
“Canacona people are happy to see changes being brought in and are equally thankful for efforts taken by government to upgrade CHC Canacona,” said CHWC President Diogo Da Silva.
According to Da Silva, Kamat informed that he is equally concerned about the health needs of Canacona people and will do every thing within his reach in bringing about improvements that are needed since long back in upgrading CHC to a full-fledged hospital.
The chief minister agreed to the views, as brought forward by people of Canacona that appointment of surgeons, physicians and gynecologists on regular basis, functioning of pathology lab, blood bank and pharmacy for 24 hours, also having radiology and a trauma unit are required to be fulfilled to give better health deal to all the people living in this distant taluka having over 50,000 population.
Da Silva said Kamat as usual asked the delegation for bringing in local qualified people willing to serve in the hospital, but CHWC informed that government is better placed to find and appoint necessary medics at CHC.
The nine demands again submitted to the chief minister on Tuesday are providing basic facilities at CHC, appointing full-time specialized doctors at CHC, functioning of pathology lab from 8 am to 6 pm, blood bank, establishment of trauma unit, regular functioning of dialysis unit, up-gradation of CHC into full-fledged hospital, 24-hour ambulance service and radiology/other need facilities.
Da Silva further informed that some of the newly transferred nursing staff has not joined at CHC Canacona, while he had requested the chief minister to provide specific transport facilities to the medics who are unwilling to take up postings at CHC Canacona because of inadequate residential quarters facilities.
Poinguinim MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, Da Silva, members Krishna Dessai, Luiza Fernandes, Peter Barretto and others were some of the delegation members who Kamat on Tuesday.
