Jeyakumar is up by 5.40 am to tie his shoe laces as he loves to walk cum jog for an hour followed by scanning of newspapers and then off to office. In the evening, since he is a ‘workaholic’, he leaves office not earlier than 7.30 on most days “which leaves very less time for outings”, so he prefers staying home to watch television or meet friends in the neighbourhood. Playing badminton is also one of his favourite past time during winter season.
On weekends he along with his family travel out for marketing and love to dine out. “As of now, visiting the new mall at Porvorim is a fun time for us,” and added that he would visit some renowned and acclaimed restaurants to tingle their pallet a bit. He himself is a good cook. “I love cooking mutton curry, chutney, sambhar etc. As a bachelor during our college days, I was the master chef for all my five friends and yes, they did relish my skills in the kitchen,” added Jeyakumar. Even today if he gets time, he loves his kitchen time which according to him is one of the biggest ‘stress busters.
A man whose office is next to the sea, he still loves to watch the rains pouring down. Jeyakumar’s excitement doubles when he experiences rain while travelling in train. “Rain is so soothing to the eyes. It brings you so close to nature,” said Jeyakumar.
An agriculture graduate, he also is an MBA who worked in a private company. “People from South India are satisfied by taking up State government job. I too got into that mode when I joined the State government as a Quarantine Officer. But then my friend from Andhra Pradesh inspired me,” said Jeyakumar. He later joined the bank which was a transferrable job and then he appeared for civil services and then he never looked back. “I was made a director in Rail Bhawan, Delhi and those three years was a game changer for my life. I learned Hindi there,” he added.
Having worked in various places as a Indian Railways Traffic Service officer, virtually all over India, he finds Goa as a place, beautiful for not only its natural richness but also the people.
“People from Goa are very good, calm, casual and friendly, non-interfering and nice. The result is the same. People here know how to do work at a pace which does not affect their health. In fact, all places are nice but Goa takes the larger portion of the cake by the elements already mentioned. In fact, I applied before the ministry to get a posting at Goa and my family loves it,” added Jeyakumar.
