India is at the
crossroads. The idea of India is being questioned. There are many Goans, who feel that never has India
needed leadership that can preserve our democratic values, more than now.
At the same time, India needs better Indians, those who do not get
swayed by petty and personal interests and work towards creating and supporting
those who will govern to make India better. Cafe speaks to Goans on what they
wish for India

I
wish leaders would talk to supporters before changing political ideology or
value systems
Every voter votes along certain lines. It
could be their ideology, belief system, appreciation of the work initiated and
completed by the candidate or the promises made that would be completed if
elected. Now, if they get elected and due to some problem, they decide to
change their ideology which could clash with their earlier held value system.
It could be the exact reverse of the reasons why he or she was elected. They
will have to then reconsider their position, talk to their supporters and try
to make them understand. If not then they will have to learn to stick to what
they had promised earlier.

wish political turncoats should be banned from politics for two years
These days people will
vote for who they think is their choice. My views may not jell with those of
the general public. I firmly believe it is important to be honest and to be
upright. In terms of the law, the candidate should have no conflict. He or she
should be a true leader and one who has vision. That however does not seem to
be the case in this day and age. Most of the candidates seem to have an assault
list as long as my arm. It is very depressing. Turncoats should be banned for
two elections. The people made a choice to elect you and then you decide to
flip your loyalties.

wish voters and the voted should live by the constitution and work on
fortifying democracy
This coming year’s
resolution, (and a wish for Christmas), for the voters as well as the voted
should be to live by the constitution of this glorious nation. Contribute even
in a tiny way to the development of our economy. Work for the fortification of
our democracy and walk together through the times to come. It’s very easy to
make and break new year resolutions but as a nation, we have to be united and
look at the larger picture and in the interest of our country. They say
resolutions are made and then broken. But there are always exceptions to such
rules. Happy New Year Goa, Happy New Year India.
