Save my Goa

The prime duty of any elected government is the responsibility in its people. The responsibility is the safety and security of its people, their land, the protection of environment. As we citizens of this great country each one of us is duty bound to contribute towards the protection of Mother Nature. We all need water to live and Goa was blessed with abundance of clean and pure water by the creator. We humans polluted this precious water by welcoming highly polluting industries in Goa and lovingly allowing them to dump their industrial waste in our fertile fields which finally resulted in the pollution of ground water which in no circumstances can be returned back to its original condition and some of us together with our political leaders speaks about development.
We all need grain to survive and again Goa was blessed with abundance of fertile fields to cultivate grain. We all have forgotten our roots, we all miserably failed to respect the fertile fields and we all witness the killing of our fertile fields to make way for a concrete jungle. We failed to understand the simple meaning of low lying areas; we have blocked the natural waterways. We permitted to destroy thousands of tress to make way for hotels, Villas, Golf courses and this will cost us miserably. We all must have witnessed the flooding of some places in Goa during rainy season but we are yet to see the worst consequences of floods and if we continue with our same attitude the worst day is not very far.
We all Goans are aware of mangroves. These trees themselves are few in species but the ecosystem these trees create provides a home for a great variety of other organisms. They provide a home for oysters, shrimps, mangrove crabs, mud lobsters, etc. Mangrove swamps protect coastal areas from erosion and in spite of giving so much for us free of cost we have not hesitated to kill them to make way for what? Marinas, Yacht clubs, hotels, etc? These temporary personal gains will take us nowhere. By making such ugly actions we are contributing towards the killing of the future of our own children.
My Goa which was once known for peace and communal harmony is leading towards a disaster. It is been projected to the world as a hub for all sort of ugly activities. The Goa which was once known to the world for communal harmony has changed from bad to worst. We Goans who were once united, presently been divided in the name of education, MOPA airport, etc. We all Goans are literate, we all know what is good and bad for us. We don’t need any cheap advice for cheap fanatics. We need to destroy these few ugly pollutants who are trying to disturb and pollute the peace of united Goans.
Instead of standing for its own people our own elected people in power are all out to sell the entire village of Tiracol to outsiders. Today is a great day, my country’s 68th Independence Day. I salute the tri-colour, I remember and salute people like Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Bismil, etc; who sacrificed their precious lives for our country and I vow to fight against the liberation given to the destroyers to kill the nature.
God, Save my Goa and help me in this fight.
