Your attitude reveals the altitude of goodness within you. Yes our actions are really what we think. Attitude is a way of seeing something either in positive or negative manner.
One common thing we see is ‘chalta hai’ attitude e.g. .throwing garbage on roads, spitting pan masala on every conceivable surface etc; people’s conscience feels such behaviour is wrong but they quieten their inner voice by saying everyone is doing it and so they continue with it. Therefore, we see so much garbage decorating our road-sides and pan masala ornamenting building corners. Such attitude does not make Goa rise to the height of a clean state but lowers it down to rock bottom garbage city.
Many, in life, get stuck to one fixed thought of discouragement and can never come out of it. But wise men do not get tied to depression due to their faults; they try to unfasten themselves by God’s grace. Peter denied Jesus three times because he was afraid of his life. But he repented and asked the Lord’s pardon. He was made the first pope.
Some housewives after their husband’s death are a picture of sadness with no one to support them. They change their attitude of low spirits and take up some job in foreign state to support their children.
But he who allows discouragement to grip him, falls into depression. This is how Judas Iscariot was stuck with sorry for what he had done. If he had asked pardon, Jesus would have definitely forgiven him. But he did not see the kindness of God. He was stuck to his guilt. So, Judas hanged himself in despair.
There are people who have the tendency to complain. They grumble that the servants are carriers of secrets; they moan that some familiar faces hatch wicked plans; they find fault with their in-laws and thus live in the world of complaints. Actually, problems have hidden treasure in them — material or spiritual. Wise people do not get stuck with difficulties because they know that everything passes away. It is said, “One can have the best of things and still be miserable. Or one may have nothing and still be deliriously happy.” Yes, it all depends on one’s attitude. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the thoughts we entertain in our mind. If the thoughts are negative it will lead to self depression and failure in life and vice-versa.
Some individuals are foolishly proud of their caste and educational achievement. What is the use if one has all the knowledge in the world but no inner beauty of understanding towards his fellowmen? No person is high or low because of caste, religion or university degrees. It is one’s deeds, not birth or education that determines one’s value.
Yes your attitude determines your inner altitude. It is not the years in your life that counts, but the attitude in those years.
