A young woman allegedly died by suicide by consuming poison a day after her lover was murdered in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Sunday.
Ankita, 18, a resident of the Chilkana area in the district, was found dead at her home on Saturday. An empty pesticide packet was recovered near her body, Additional Superintendent of Police (Dehat) Sagar Jain said.

Her 22-year-old lover, Mahil, had been killed on Friday. After his death, his family accused Ankita’s relatives of being involved and held a protest demanding swift action, Jain added.
Police detained Ankita’s two minor brothers for questioning. Officials said the woman’s body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is ongoing.
