23-year-old doctor found dead at home following disagreement on cat adoption

A 23-year-old doctor allegedly died by suicide on Friday evening in Hyderabad’s Alwal following repeated disagreements with her family over her decision to adopt a cat. The victim, identified as T Princy, also known as Shreshtha, was alone at home when the incident occurred.

Princy lived with her mother, Kusumalatha, and grandmother. A few weeks ago, she brought a cat home, after which she developed a persistent cold and cough. The family reportedly opposed her decision to keep the pet, leading to frequent arguments.

On Friday, her mother and grandmother had gone out. Upon returning, they found Princy hanging from a ceiling fan in her room. Distressed, they alerted neighbours, who contacted the police. Officials took her body to Gandhi Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

Alwal Sub-Inspector Devendra said, “The mother informed us that Princy had brought home a pet cat. After that, she developed cold and cough symptoms, which led to repeated disputes between them.” A case of suspicious death was registered following a complaint from the mother. While preliminary investigation points to domestic disagreements, police are examining all possible angles.

Princy had recently completed her medical degree and was preparing for postgraduate entrance exams. She was also in the process of applying for her medical license.
