Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport — one of the busiest in India — are steadily returning to normal nearly 36 hours after a major technical glitch disrupted the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system.
According to flight tracking portal Flightradar24, around 129 flights were delayed on Saturday, including 53 arrivals and 76 departures — a significant improvement compared to nearly 800 flight delays reported on Friday.
The average delay time has also reduced substantially, with arrivals delayed by about five minutes and departures by around 19 minutes.
In an official statement issued on Saturday morning, Delhi Airport confirmed that the issue with the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which supports the ATC’s flight planning process, is “gradually improving.”
“Airline operations at Delhi Airport are returning to normal, and all concerned authorities are working diligently to minimise any inconvenience caused. Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest flight updates,” the statement read.
The glitch, which first occurred on Thursday night, had caused widespread disruption to flight schedules, impacting both domestic and international services. Authorities continue to monitor the situation to ensure full restoration of normal operations.
