Former Congress Member of Parliament Shakeel Ahmad on Monday claimed that his life was under threat, days after he publicly criticised senior party leader Rahul Gandhi, calling him a “darpok” (coward) and an insecure politician.
Ahmad, a three-time MLA and two-term MP from Bihar, said he had been “secretly informed” by his Congress colleagues that the party’s national leadership had allegedly issued directions to carry out an attack at his residences in Patna and Madhubani on Tuesday, under the pretext of burning his effigies.

Calling the alleged move a serious violation of democratic values, Ahmad took to social media platform X to express his concern. “This is against the principles of democracy,” he stated in his post.
In a separate post, Ahmad also shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp group chat in which a person purportedly urged other members to burn his effigies for speaking against Rahul Gandhi, further fuelling his fears over personal safety.
The claims have triggered political reactions, with attention now focused on the Congress leadership’s response to the serious allegations raised by the former MP.
