Kolkata, West Bengal – A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of West Bengal until the morning of October 6, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned. The inclement weather affected festivities on Thursday, dampening the spirits of Durga Puja revellers on Bijoya Dashami, the festival’s culminating day.
The IMD stated that the depression is likely to move toward the coast, crossing Odisha and adjoining Andhra Pradesh between Gopalpur and Paradip by Thursday night.

In south Bengal, an overcast sky and moderate rainfall, punctuated by intense spells of downpour, disrupted celebrations in Kolkata and surrounding districts. The weather is expected to continue affecting festival activities, particularly in South 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, and Jhargram, where heavy to very heavy rain (7–20 cm) is likely at isolated places.
Kolkata and Howrah are also forecasted to receive heavy rainfall (7–11 cm) at select locations until Friday morning, according to the IMD. Residents have been advised to take precautions amid persistent wet weather.
