Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara has suggested that he remains a contender for the Chief Minister’s post if the Congress opts for a leadership change, even as he downplayed ongoing speculation within the party.
Speaking to reporters, Parameshwara said, “I’m always in the race, it is not a big issue,” while emphasising that no discussions have taken place at the level of the party high command.

Recalling the 2013 Assembly elections, he noted that as the then Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, he had played a key role in bringing the party to power. “I never claimed credit solely. I lost in that election. Had I won, what would have happened, I don’t know,” he remarked. He added that Congress tradition often sees the PCC president considered for the Chief Minister’s post, though it is not always followed.
With the Congress government nearing the halfway mark of its five-year tenure this November, rumours of a possible leadership reshuffle have resurfaced. Speculation has also been fuelled by earlier reports of a potential power-sharing arrangement between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar—claims the party has repeatedly denied.
Parameshwara clarified that so far, no discussion on leadership change has taken place either within the party’s central leadership or in the Congress Legislature Party.
