Lucknow Youth Arrested for Killing Father Over Career Dispute, Body Parts Found in Barrel

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s capital for allegedly murdering his father following a prolonged dispute over his career choices, police officials said.

The victim, Manvendra Singh, 49, a businessman involved in the pharmaceutical and liquor trade, had been reported missing since Friday. The case took a grim turn when police visited the family’s residence in Lucknow and discovered dismembered body parts stored inside a barrel.

According to investigators from the Uttar Pradesh Police, suspicion fell on the victim’s son, Akshat Pratap Singh, after inconsistencies emerged during questioning. Officers said the accused later confessed to shooting his father, dismembering the body, and attempting to dispose of the remains.

Police revealed that tensions had been simmering between father and son for some time. Manvendra Singh reportedly wanted his son to prepare for competitive examinations and pursue a medical career. However, the young man was allegedly opposed to the plan, leading to frequent arguments. Authorities added that the accused had previously run away from home following similar disputes.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with police continuing their investigation to establish the full sequence of events and any possible premeditation.

Officials confirmed that the accused is in custody and further legal proceedings are underway.
