Panic spread through Mumbai’s Powai area on Thursday when a man, identified as Rohit Arya, allegedly held 19 people hostage inside a flat — including 17 children, a senior citizen, and one unidentified man. The tense standoff ended tragically after Arya was shot in the chest during a police crossfire and later died. The senior citizen was also injured and taken to Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Hospital for treatment. Mumbai Police, including senior officers and a quick response team, quickly reached the scene and confirmed that all the children were rescued safely. Police said Arya had earlier posted a video demanding to speak to certain individuals and threatening to harm himself and the hostages or “set everything on fire” if stopped.
