AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday said he dreams of a day when a “hijab-clad daughter” becomes the Prime Minister of India, invoking the secular ideals of the Constitution drafted by B R Ambedkar. Speaking at a rally in Solapur, Maharashtra, Owaisi said the Constitution allows any Indian citizen to become the Prime Minister, chief minister or mayor, irrespective of religion. He added that while the present generation may not witness it, such a day will eventually arrive.
Owaisi’s remarks drew a sharp response from the BJP, which suggested that he should first name a Muslim woman president within his own party. Drawing a comparison with Pakistan, Owaisi said its Constitution restricts the post of Prime Minister to a single religion. He also claimed that hatred against Muslims would not last forever and would eventually fade.
