Security protocols have been intensified in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, in preparation for Holi. The Shahi Jama Masjid, along with nine other mosques situated along the planned procession route, has been shielded with tarpaulins. This initiative aims to prevent colors from reaching these sacred places and to uphold communal peace. More than 1,000 individuals have been subjected to a legal process that requires them to provide a bond or surety to ensure their good behavior as a precaution. Sambhal ASP Shreesh Chandra mentioned that, in addition to the Jama Masjid, ten other religious sites have been covered along the procession path.

“We have taken the initiative to cover the religious site with the agreement of both communities. This decision was made to avoid offending anyone’s religious feelings,” he mentioned. SDM Vandana Mishra explained that the district has been organized into sectors and sub-sectors for improved oversight. “Lekhpals have been assigned to every mosque at the tehsil level and will carry out field inspections alongside revenue officials. Furthermore, tehsildars, naib tehsildars, and I will be monitoring the area. Up to this point, 1,015 individuals have been bound under the relevant laws to ensure peace and order. Our goal is to celebrate Holi in a harmonious manner,” she stated.
Taufiq Ahmed, a lawyer representing Shahi Jama Masjid in the Supreme Court, stated that the tradition of covering the mosque has been in place for many years. “During the Holi Chaupai procession, which is organized by our Hindu brothers, the route passes right in front of Jama Masjid. To avoid any discoloration, we take the precaution of covering the mosque from the outside,” he explained. District Magistrate Rajender Pensiya mentioned that the area has been organized into six zones and 29 sectors to enhance monitoring.
