Venezuela was rocked by two powerful earthquakes on Wednesday evening, sending residents rushing for safety as buildings shook and infrastructure suffered damage across the capital city of Caracas.
According to reports, an earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale struck first, causing buildings to sway and power supplies to flicker. Before residents could fully react to the initial tremor, a second, even stronger earthquake measuring 7.5 magnitude struck just 39 seconds later, intensifying the chaos and panic.

The back-to-back quakes left many people terrified as structures cracked and debris fell from buildings. Witnesses described scenes of confusion as residents fled homes, offices and public spaces in search of safer ground.
“The stairs came away, the whole wall cracked. Things fell from the ceiling. It was horrible,” said Odalis Escalona, a 54-year-old bank employee in Caracas, recounting the frightening moments during the earthquakes.
Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage and monitoring the situation as emergency response teams continue their operations. The twin tremors have raised concerns about structural safety in affected areas, while residents remain on edge amid fears of possible aftershocks.
