Heavy southwest monsoon showers wreaked havoc across Telangana, claiming the lives of two people in Hyderabad and triggering widespread traffic congestion as several areas remained waterlogged.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Hyderabad’s Mylardevpally locality, where two men were electrocuted after coming into contact with a live electrical cable submerged in rainwater.

According to reports, the low-tension streetlight cable was accidentally damaged during drain excavation work and fell onto the road. Continuous rainfall caused the area to become waterlogged, leaving the live wire hidden beneath the accumulated water.
The victims, identified as Jaffer and Abu, residents of Chandrayangutta, had arrived at the location in an auto-rickshaw. As they stepped out of the vehicle, they unknowingly walked into the flooded stretch where the electrified cable was lying, suffering fatal electric shocks. Despite attempts by local residents to rescue them, both men succumbed at the scene.
The incident has raised serious concerns over public safety during monsoon-related civic works and the need for better precautions around damaged electrical infrastructure in flooded areas.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall continued to disrupt normal life across Hyderabad, leading to massive traffic jams and waterlogging in several parts of the city.
Local MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi visited the bereaved families to offer condolences and assured them that the issue would be taken up with the concerned authorities to ensure accountability and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
