The Winter Session of Parliament begins today and will continue until December 19, featuring 15 sittings over a span of 19 days. The 6th Session of the 18th Lok Sabha and the 269th Session of the Rajya Sabha will commence at 11:00 am.
The government is set for a busy legislative schedule, with plans to introduce at least 13 bills touching upon the economy, taxation, and national security. Key among them are the Central Excise Amendment Bill, 2025, and the Health Security National Security Cess Bill, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Opposition is preparing to corner the government on a range of issues, particularly the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and broader security concerns. During an all-party meeting, senior Trinamool Congress leaders—including Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien and Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee—pressed for a dedicated discussion on SIR.
The TMC reiterated that it wants Parliament to function smoothly, but expects the government to “reciprocate” by allowing debates sought by the Opposition. “We are ready to cooperate in running the House, provided the treasury benches also cooperate with the Opposition. We want more time allocated to the Opposition during the Parliament session,” Banerjee said after the meeting.
