159 narcotic cases registered, 179 drug arrests this year

PANJIM: Goa Police have registered 159 drug-related cases this year leading to the arrest of 179 persons.

PANJIM: Goa Police have registered 159 drug-related cases this year leading to the arrest of 179 persons. 
“We have booked 159 cases under the NDPA Act and arrested 179 persons, of whom 63 are Goans, 79 non-Goans and 37 foreigners,” DGP Dr Muktesh Chander told a gathering at the Goa Police Raising Day function at police headquarters on Wednesday. CM Manohar Parrikar had tabled in the House details on the total drug arrests this year, which he stated almost jumped by 2.6 times the annual average. The State will dedicate 2018 to anti-drugs and anti-accidents mission.
A detention centre is expected to be made operational by January to deport foreign nationals overstaying illegally in the State with Goa government also proposing to set up a detoxification centre for drug addicts.
20 police officials and SP Bosco George were awarded with DGP’s Insignia for Excellence. DySP Edwin Colaco, nine pis, three psis, one ASI, three HCs, a lady HC and two constables were also awarded. The DGP awarded Vasco, Panjim and Bicholim  as the best Police Stations.
