Bank cheating case
Victim: A nationalised bank.
Place: Margao.
Date: March 6, 2013.
Police Station: Ponda.
Incident: Acting on a complaint filed by a bank manager, Ponda Police had arrested a 35-year-old resident of Nuvem-Salcette on charges of cheating and forging documents. The accused, Sujit Shirwant, had taken a car loan of Rs 6.10 lakh from the bank in Margao in 2009 and the car was registered with Ponda RTO.
However, according to the complainant, the accused failed to pay the instalments. Ponda Police informed that the accused forged documents that were submitted to the RTO Ponda so that the Registration Certificate (RC) book does not carry hypothecation details.
Status of Investigation: Ponda Police during the course of investigation recovered the car, which was sold by the accused. According to police, without hypothecation on the RC book, it was easier for the accused to sell the car. PSI S Gawas is the investigating officer.

woman robbed
Victim: A woman.
Place: Chicalim-Vasco.
Date: September 14, 2012.
Police Station: Vasco.
Incident: Jayantilal Jain was returning home after performing religious ceremony at Jain Temple at Chicalim Industrial Estate, when three men in a car at knife point robbed her four gold bangles, a Mangalsutra and a gold chain, weighing 96 grammes, all worth Rs 3.75 lakh and fled from the site.
Status of Investigation: Acting on the complaint, Vasco Police has inspected the area, but failed to nab the culprits. However, till date there is no breakthrough in the case.
Though Vasco Police have stated that the investigation is in progress, sources in police said it is like searching needle in the haystack as the culprits might have sold the gold and fled the State.
house robbery
Victim: Woman.
Place: Majorda.
Date: 12th March, 2013.
Police Station: Colva.
Incident: Robbers struck Majorda village in the wee hours of March 12 and decamped with gold ornaments valud Rs 2.5 lakh after literally gagging the lone woman inmate.
Luizinha Fernandes of Adavnv Waddo, Majorda woke up when robbers entered her bedroom.
They caught hold of her and gagged her mouth, threatening dire consequences if she raised an alarm. They opened the cupboards and lifted away gold ornaments. The robbers had effected entry by removing the window grills.
Status of investigations: Colva police maintained that investigations into the case are in progress.
But, so far, there’s no breakthrough in the daring robbery. The robbery along with the burglary in neighbouring Betalbatim village had triggered a scare amongst the residents, but the breakthrough has eluded the Colva police headed by PI Nilesh Rane so far.
