While IMA said over a thousand doctors in India have died due to COVID so far, the actual numbers may be higher as the doctors’ association only maintains a registry of its 3.5 lakh members– based on input from its various branches across the country

IMA started maintaining a registry after the Centre said it had no data on the number of doctors who died in the line of duty during the first wave.
