2 held for assault on truck owner

Curchorem police on Friday arrested two persons in connection with the brutal attack on a truck owner at Tisk-Sanvodrem.
It may be recalled that one Alcin Fernandes of Digas-Panchawadi along with eight other accomplices were accused of mercilessly assaulting Baburao Naik with iron rods and knives in broad daylight.
Naik is undergoing medical treatment at GMC hospital at Bambolim, while his uncle Subhash Naik was also injured in the attack.
Fernandes was subsequently arrested in the connection and is presently in judicial custody at Margao. The other accused had applied for anticipatory bail in the Sessions Court at Margao, but it was rejected by the court.
On Friday, police received a tip that the two accused were hiding in Cacora. One accused, Feliciano Fernandes, was arrested at Vodlemol-Cacora, where he was sleeping in a house under construction. Milagres Fernandes was nabbed in a house at Chirknolli-Cacora.
Both accused have been remanded to three-day police custody and PI Nilesh Rane is investigating the case.
