PANJIM: Inspector General of Prison have suspended three jail guards on Thursday following their involvement in the recent assault on inmates. Jailgurads PramodMayekar,Narayan Naik and Babu Varak have been suspended following ongoing inquiry which is going on, said IG Prison Elvis Gomes.
However, the fact remains that despite severe allegations and over a dozen of complaints against Bhanudas Pednekar, an assistant superintendent, he has not faced any action.
Mapusa Police Inspector Tushar Lotlikar has said they have received many complaints from the Colvale jail inmates against Pednekar, however IG Prison Elvis Gomes has maintained that his office is not aware of these complaints.
“There are two inquiries are going on, one by Goa Human Rights Commission and second departmental inquiry I am heading. It is still underway. Let the truth reveal than we will take action against the guilty,” Gomes told Herald.
Four other jail guards, one jailer and one former superintendent of prison, have already been suspended in the assault case.
In 2013, Pednekar who was directly indicted in the inquiry report of Crime Branch and Under Secretary home in illegalities at Sada Sub Jail Mormugao is now allegedly involved in sneaking narcotic substance and mobile handset in the newly inaugurated Colvale Central jail. But Pednekar has escaped punishment in 2013 even after strict strictures and even now he is being protected by the law guardians.
