MARGAO: This may certainly sound strange and may call for introspection by revenue officials heading Salcete taluka. A whopping 3887 revenue cases concerning mundcarial and tenancy, mutations and cases under Section 133 of the Cr P C are pending with the Salcete Mamlatdar and the four Joint Mamlatdars. That’s not all. Of the 3887 cases, over a thousand cases have been dragging on with the Mamlatdars for three years and more. Another 1400 cases have been pending and awaiting disposal over the last one to three years.
Statistics revealed that the number of mudcarial cases pending with the Mamlatdar and the Joint Mamlatdars are put at 617. Around 429 tenancy cases are presently pending with the officials.
A senior revenue official remarked that the Mamlatdars may now breathe easy with the government deciding to refer all tenancy cases to the civil court for disposal. “The Mamlatdars have stopped accepting tenancy cases after the government decided to refer these cases to the civil courts. This will certainly give the Mamlatdars and Joint Mamlatdars opportunity to use their time and attention to clear the huge backlog,” remarked the senior official.
The Joint Mamlatdars have received the notification to transfer the tenancy cases to the civil court only a day ago. “We have stopped accepting fresh tenancy cases or hearing of the old cases. The process is on to compile the cases and transfer the same to the Civil Court,” informed a Joint Mamlatdar.
