PANJIM: Alleging that the government has still not made any moves to recover the money from those who engaged in illegal mining, the Aam Aadmi Party Goa said that if the government accepts the High Court’s verdict and renews the mining leases it would stands to lose upto Rs 3000 crore per annum. The government seems inclined to ensure that the very same companies which looted the State can carry on with work as usual, the party said.
In a press communiqué here, AAP said that it is ‘appalled’ that the government should accept the verdict of the High Court for renewal of leases for those companies who have paid stamp duty, arguing that the “very act of acceptance of stamp duty from the companies, while the matter is still pending in the Supreme Court, is beyond comprehension.”
Stating that though the Supreme Court order clearly mentions the recovery of money from illegal mines, it alleged that even though two and half years have passed since the inception of the new government, no efforts are visible that could be construed as steps to recover the amounts looted from illegal mining.
