Agassaim has no fulltime panchayat secretary

OLD GOA: The workload is piling by the passing day, but the absence of a fulltime panchayat secretary has hampered the functioning of the 11-member Agassaim panchayat with sarpanch Jaime Afonso pleading that a full-time secretary be deputed to the panchayat at the earliest. Currently, the Agassaim panchayat secretary is also holding additional charge of Goa Velha panchayat. Speaking to Herald, Afonso said that the panchayat has been sending written requests to the Director of Panchayats since 2014 to appoint a full-time secretary but not even a reply has been forthcoming.

“Files are pending, complaints cannot be attended to immediately in the absence of the secretary,” said Afonso.
while highlighting the plight of an elderly woman who has had to make the rounds of the panchayat on a regular basis so that her file could be cleared.
Similar is the story of 11-member Merces panchayat where its secretary is holding additional charge of the Azossim-Mandur panchayat.
Merces sarpanch Prakash Naik said that it is difficult to run the administration of the panchayat in the absence of a fulltime secretary.
“It is difficult for a secretary to concentrate in two places,” Naik added.
