Agonda cattle death toll rises to 18

CANACONA: The Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AHVS) on Wednesday conducted an inspection at Agonda in connection with the recent spate of bovine deaths.

AHVS Dy Director H Faleiro, local AHVS in-charge Prashant Naik and other officials inspected the entire village, especially the areas in which the cattle were found dead. They also had a look at an ailing cow on the Agonda beach.
Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 18, with another cow having died the same day. Another two are reportedly on the brink of death.
The first death occurred two weeks ago. According to reports, the cattle died after consuming poison-laced food that had allegedly been kept by shack operators after cows ransacked the shacks’ kitchens.
Agonda panchayat’s opposition camp demanded a meeting of the local body to discus the issue, and also the Bihar migrants who were found carrying the Filaria virus.
