Agonda panch passes away

CANACONA: Agonda panch and NCP State secretary Sapnesh Dessai, succumbed to injuries, which he sustained in a road accident at Devabhaga-Canacona in January.

CANACONA: Agonda panch and NCP State secretary Sapnesh Dessai, succumbed to injuries, which he sustained in a road accident at Devabhaga-Canacona in January.
Dessai (35), treated at a private hospital in Margao, passed away at about 2.30 am on Wednesday. He had suffered multiple injuries including head injuries and went into coma, after his motorcycle hit a rickshaw at Devabhag on January 26, while he was travelling from Agonda to Canacona.
Hundreds of people paid their last respects, as Dessai’s body was kept at his residence on Wednesday afternoon, before it was taken for cremation to the nearby crematorium at Guravol-Agonda.
Quepem MLA Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, Poinguinim ZP member Daya Pagui, Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Mahadev Dessai, Agonda Sarpanch Navneeta Naik Gaunkar, former Canacona MLA Vijay Poi Khot, former Poinguinim MLA Isidore Fernandes, Jose Phillip D’Souza, DySP Mahesh Gaonkar and several government officers were among others who attended the final rites.
Dessai, an upcoming politician, had twice unsuccessfully contested assembly elections including the last assembly elections on Trinamol Congress Party ticket and in his third attempt was elected to the Agonda Panchayat from Dessaiwada ward.
