PANJIM: While Goa police are waiting for the results of the just concluded physical proficiency test (PPT), a medical camp at police headquarters organised in collaboration with Manipal Hospital revealed that many personnel are suffering from diabetes, hypertension and kidney stones
The medical camp diagnosed 15 personnel with high blood sugar (diabetes) and seven others with symptoms of hypertension, among 180 personnel examined on Thursday. This revelation has added to 68 personnel already suffering diabetes and 61 with hypertension.
Jones Samuel, public relations officer of Manipal Hospital said, “During the camp, we came across many cases seeking advice for kidney stone problems and prevention of kidney stones and prostate problems. We also detected a few cases of high blood pressure and high blood sugar and offered medication for the same,” he said.
Few patients also attended cancer screening and sought advice from the onco-surgeon. A few police personnel were advised treatment for cataract and other eye surgeries.
Most of the patients were offered advice by cardiologist to rule out cardiac problems.
The police department is now contemplating to hold medical camps in the north and south Goa districts to ensure that all personnel are examined. Meanwhile, the PPT results will reveal the number of fit and unfit personnel among officers force. A report is expected to be submitted to DGP Kishan Kumar by Monday.
