All eyes on mining loan relief scheme

PANJIM: The mining dependent people will have to wait for a day more to get relief from loan liabilities, with government set to notify its one-time settlement (OTS) scheme on Tuesday, September 2. Truck, barge and machinery owners, will get subsidy of upto 35 percent from the government to write off the loans.

With the Director of Mines Prasanna Acharya on leave, the much-awaited scheme, which will benefit those reeling under loans since the halt in mining operations two years back, could not be notified on Monday, as announced by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. “The scheme would be notified on Tuesday morning,” a senior mines department official confirmed.  Parrikar had on Sunday informed media persons that the scheme will have a ceiling of Rs 15 lakh for truck owners, Rs 25 lakh for mining machinery owners and Rs 35 lakh for barge owners. The subsidy will be available for a maximum of three vehicles.
